Overview

The haneWIN PPPoE Relay software implements a relay service for PPPoE packets forwarding PPPoE packets from one computer interface to another.

It can make an internal or USB connected DSL modem with PPPoE access available to clients on your LAN without bringing all computers online. The computer running the relay software acts as a forwarder for PPPoE Packets. Only PPPoE packets are forwarded between DSL modem, relay and clients. The interfaces don't need to have the IP protocol activated or an IP address to operate the PPPoE relay.

It can be used to set your own hot spot for DSL Internet access. All clients share a DSL connection, but must login separate at your provider.

The haneWIN PPPoE Relay is implemented as native service for background operation on Windows 2000/XP platforms. A Control Panel applet provides interactive access to the service.

The haneWIN PPPoE Relay Software is Shareware.
You may test the software for 30 days without any obligation. Any use of the software after the evaluation time requires a software license. Registration details you will find in order.txt.

Introduction

The haneWIN PPPoE Relay software implements a relay service for PPPoE packets forwarding PPPoE packets from one computer interface to another.

Installation

Requirements

Computer with Windows 2000 or higher

Installation of the PPPoE Relay service on Windows

  1. Install the software by running the setup. The setup software installs the PPPoE protocol driver and the PPPoE Relay service.
  2. With the control panel applet haneWIN PPPoE Relay you can monitor the operation of the service.
    • Only Administrators are allowed to start the applet.

Controlling the PPPoE Relay service

The service is configured for automatic start on Windows startup. The service can be started and stopped manually through the services control panel.

  1. You could install and start the PPPoE Relay service manually executing the command:
    relay -install
  2. To uninstall the PPPoE Relay service manually execute the command:
    relay -remove
The command stops a running PPPoE Relay and removes it from the services list.

Operation

The Info Box at startup is displayed only for the unregistered version.

If the software operates as a PPPoE relay the MAC addresses of the PPPoE client and server are shown with the interface used at the server to relay the PPPoE packets.

Most access concentrator differentiate clients by MAC address not using the PPPoE host uniq field. Because the relay replaces the client MAC with the interface MAC only one client can use the relay.
Setting the interface connected to the access concentrator to promiscuous mode, the relay can keep the client MAC and clients can connect concurrently. Do not set an interface unnecessarily to promiscuous mode. In promiscuous mode all address filtering must be done in software, which will degrade the performance of the interface. Using the tri-state checkbox you can disable interfaces or select promiscuous mode.( symbol selects promiscuous mode.)

Language

The user interface can be customized to other languages. Currently the software is delivered with an English and German user interface.
